Repost: Our Crystal loving girl, Matilda, was in heaven when we visited The Crystal Caves in Atherton. This tour was amazing if you are interested in crystals. It is a personal collection of Rene Boissevain (now a man in his 80’s) who started the ‘cave’ in 1987 with now over 600 crystals and fossils to see and touch. He was offered over $2m for the beautiful amethyst geode but turned it down. Every different colour, shape and form crystal imaginable is there on display. The kids were also able to crack their own geode which is formed from a lava bubble 44 million years ago, where crystals grow inside and have never been seen before til cracked open. • When you drive along Gillies Range Road remember these ancient rainforests have been around since the dinosaurs! It’s home to some of the world’s most unique and endangered wildlife. If you see someone using it as a dump, you can report them to http://www.qld.gov.au/litter
  • A resident of tropical forests in Far North Queensland, the Striped Possum is an attractive marsupial that only ventures out at night. This one was found at Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodges at Lake Eacham, FNQ.
